A truck driver in Palm Beach County, Fla. died today after driving his packing house rig into a canal near Belle Glade around 10 a.m. this morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is not sure why 50-year-old Matthew Jenkins of Pahokee, Fla. drifted off Duda Road into the canal. Divers initially found Jenkins alive in the cab. He was hospitalized in critical condition and later died, according to wptv.com.

Several produce packing houses are located in the Belle Glade area. It’s unclear if Jenkins was carrying a load at the time.
