Installing a remote diesel tachometer is fairly easy with Autohack’s wireless tach.
The Tennessee-based company’s install video (see below) reveals in a few minutes how it’s done: a sensor is fastened in place of an oil pan bolt and mounted just below the engine’s harmonic balancer; four small magnets are glued to the harmonic balancer and a transmitter is mounted nearby.
A tachometer mounted inside the vehicle will receive signals from the transmitter under the hood. Tach designs include shift light, vintage, black or white.
A current $89.95 spring special for diesel professionals will run through March 31. Autohack’s diesel tach works with diesel trucks of all years, makes and models.
