Bridge collapses as truck attempts to cross

A truck driver was lucky to escape injury when the bridge he was driving across collapsed.

Truck driver Scott Barber was hauling gravel across the Imperial Road bridge in Port Bruce, Ontario, Canada Friday when he heard a loud crash. He was halfway across the two-lane bridge when a section of the span collapsed into Catfish Creek.

Barber’s was the only vehicle on the bridge at the time.

The London Free Press reports “Barber’s dump truck ended up submerged in the fast-flowing water, while the cab was wedged at a 45-degree angle on a broken section of the bridge.”

Barber waited in his cab for rescuers.

Officials continue to investigate why the bridge collapsed.
