Fun Trucks Friday: Freightliner on the skids, Chevy jet, Optimus Prime

Sneak Preview: Mike Ryan really puts his Frieghtliner through its paces: He’s probably most famous for his record runs up Pike’s Peak. He also created something of a YouTube sensation with his “Size Matters” video of taking the truck to its traction limits and demonstrating his radical drifting skills.

Well, he’s back. Here’s a behind the scenes look at “Size Matters 2,” expected to debut in time for the Mid-America Truck Show in a couple of weeks.

Where there’s smoke: Slightly less practical than pushing a tractor up Pike’s Peak or doing donuts in the parking lot, “Shockwave” was built to be the world’s fastest jet-powered truck.

The truck has a reported quarter-mile time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 375 mph – but what would else you expect from 36,000 horses or so pushing the old Chevy down the track and pulling 6 Gs on the way?

Too big to fail: The folks making the next Transformers movie, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, have posted a preview teaser. And Optimus Prime, the transformed hard working truck, is back in action. This time out, he looks to be battling some dino-bot kind of something or other.

Along with some spiffy auto exotica, looks for trucks from Freightliner, Western Star and Oshkosh Defense.

The Michael Bay movie, starring Mark Wahlberg, opens nationwide in June.

More Smoke: NASCAR star Tony Stewart is going Hollywood, too. In a series of promotional videos that Mobil 1 hopes will go viral, Stewart, also known as Smoke, reinterprets the Burt Reynold’s character from Smokey and the Bandit.

Smoke is Bandit, get it?

Episode 2, with NACSAR legend and Sunday showman Darrell Waltrip as Snowman, Bandit’s truck-driving sidekick, came out this week.

Who thinks Stewart should keep his day job?
