Navistar says it plans to extend its Cummins SCR partnership to its medium-duty MaxxForce engines after the first of next year.
With the launch set for the first quarter of 2014, Navistar COO Jack Allen said on a conference call Monday the partnership is simply an extension of its heavy-duty efforts.
“And we’re going to move as quickly as possible, but we won’t compromise any of the quality gains we’ve made,” he says. “And with this plan, we expect to avoid NCPs (Non-Conformance Penalties)on medium-duty engines, and it’s likely we’ll even have (emission-compliance) credits left over.”
The company noted that it was “turning its focus” to adding SCR to its medium-duty products as its “heavy-duty launches (are) essentially completed.”
Allen added he expected a smooth transition.
“We’ve been in the market with our EGR version going to SCR,” he says. “This has been expected by the industry. We have alluded to it before. So we expect that will just be a smooth transition.”
