Truck driver’s attempt to beat Texas commuter train proves fatal

Two people were killed and 11 injured after a dump truck driver attempted to beat a commuter train Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.

Witnesses reported that the track’s crossing arms were down in the Far East Fort Worth neighborhood when around noon a dump truck drove onto the tracks into the path of an oncoming train operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

Forty-nine-year-old Arnell Tolliver and 50-year-old Charlene Alexander were in the truck at the time and were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Eleven people on the train, including the conductor, were taken to area hospitals with various injuries. Two were listed in critical condition, according to nbcdfw.com.
