Tonka offroad concept puts ‘toy’ in Toyota

Earlier this year, Ford rolled out its Tonka-themed F-750.

This week, at the 2015 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Toyota tossed its hat into the adult sandbox with a 2016 Tonka 4Runner.

The Tonka 4Runner uses a stock 4-liter V6, which is available in production 4Runners, but pretty much everything else is custom. Aside from the black and yellow Tonka graphics that are all over the vehicle, the Tonka 4Runner got a 10-inch lift thanks to a Bulletproof Suspension lift kit. Bulletproof also designed the vehicle’s welded bumpers, roof rack, side steps and ladders.

Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 38×15.50R20LT off-road tires are wrapped around 20-inch Ultra Motorsports Type 250 Colossus wheels. Rigid Industries LED lights are mounted over each tire, giving it an impressive profile at night.

This Toyota also solves the age-old problem of when your mom calls you inside because it’s getting dark, but you’re not quite through playing with your Tonkas. There’s a pop-up tent on top.
