After working for 10 hours, recovery crews in Iowa today were able to finally recover the body of a dump truck driver who had driven into an icy, water-filled sand pit.

Employees at Hallet Materials near Dunlap, about 60 miles southeast of Sioux City, called first responders early this morning for help in rescuing one of their drivers who had driven into a sand pit filled with water and ice.

The steep slope leading into the pit hampered recovery efforts, according to ketv.com. An excavator was used to remove large chunks of ice. Following 10 hours of work, the truck was pulled from the water and the driver’s body was found inside.

The incident remains under investigation.
