Alkane Truck Company, a Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based truck manufacturer has been approved to begin manufacturing the company’s new LPG/CNG Class 7 Cab-Over truck.

“We are excited about our new truck,” says Alkane CEO, Bob Smith. “We’re equally excited to bring new skilled jobs to American workers. Our assembly facility in Dorchester County (S.C.) will employ more than 300 automotive technicians once it reaches full capacity.”

The truck components are out-sourced to existing American manufacturers and assembled per-order in the company’s Summerville, S.C. facility. Assembly is scheduled to begin early next year.

The Alkane Class 7 Cab-Over is equipped with a Power Solutions International (PSI) 8.8 Liter big block engine with a Bi-Phase Technologies Liquid Propane Autogas or Compressed Natural Gas fuel system.

Also featured is an Allison 2500 series heavy duty automatic transmission.

The power train in the Alkane Class 7 Cab-Over truck, Smith says, delivers the same torque at 1500 RPMs as comparable diesel engines.

Alkane Truck Company, Smith adds, is currently working in a Class 8 Compressed CNG or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) long haul truck and a LPG powered heavy duty Humvee type vehicle.
