A Florida trooper’s quick thinking took him out of the path of a pickup moments after the patrolman had stopped to help a stranded motorist.

The Florida Highway Patrol released video showing the 23-year-old trooper dashing out of the way of a Ram truck that crashed into a vehicle that had stopped alongside I-95 in Palm Beach County last Thursday afternoon with a flat tire.

The chain reaction, hit-and-run crash left the stranded motorist with minor injuries.

The 23-year-old patrolman said he got a glance of the pickup behind him after hearing its screeching tires and was able to move out of its path just before it struck the Toyota 4Runner.

According to FHP, a hit and run driver in “a sedan collided with a white pickup truck causing it to sideswipe a silver pickup truck that then collided with the vehicle seen on the video.”

The driver of that sedan fled the scene and was last seen traveling northbound on I-95 following the 3:15 p.m. collision near the northbound exit ramp to Hypoluxo Road.

FHP does not have information on the car such as make, model or color. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to notify FHP at *347 or Crime Stoppers.
