Tow light problem leads to Ram ProMaster, ProMaster City recall

15RamProMasterCityBWS_0073FCA is recalling certain 2014-2016 Ram ProMaster and 2015-2016 Ram ProMaster City vehicles over concerns of a possible trailer light malfunction.

FCA reports that the trailer tow lighting control module on those vehicles may have a software error which may cause the brake lights to stop working and increase the risk of a crash.

Vehicles without functioning trailer lights are in violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment.”

Owners of Ram ProMaster vans manufactured from July 24, 2015 to February 15, 2016 and Ram ProMaster City vans produced from August 15, 2014 to Feb. 1, 2016 will be notified by FCA.

Dealers will replace the trailer tow light control module free of charge. FCA has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact FCA at 1-800-853-1403 and mention FCA recall S22 for more information.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 and mention NHTSA recall 16V253000.
