FMCSA hosting public hearings on voluntary compliance

Two public hearings concerning voluntary federal transportation safety compliance have been scheduled by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Next month during the two-hour sessions in Louisville, Ky and Atlanta, Ga. FMCSA hopes to gain public feedback on implementing a program that will recognize carriers and drivers who voluntarily “go above and beyond” in meeting federal transportation regulations.

The recently enacted Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act mandates that the FMCSA Administrator allow recognition for a motor carrier that installs advanced safety equipment, enhanced driver fitness measures, fleet safety management tools, technologies, and programs and other standards for use by motor carriers to receive recognition, including credit or an improved Safety Measurement System (SMS) percentile.

Those attending the meetings are encouraged to share their views, data and analysis with FMCSA representatives.

All comments will be transcribed and placed in docket number 2015-0124 for FMCSA’s consideration. Both meetings will be webcast. More information is available through the FMCSA website. A pre-publication .pdf notice can be downloaded before Dec. 24. After that, the notice will be published online at the same site.

The January 12 meeting, which consists of two sessions, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. local time at the Kentucky International Convention Center, Room 108, 221 Fourth St., Louisville, KY 40202.

The January 31 session will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. local time at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA.

The meetings may finish early provided that all public comments have been recorded.

FMCSA will post specific information on how to participate via the Internet on the FMCSA Web site at www.fmcsa.dot.gov in advance of the listening session.
