Fiat Chrysler Automobiles says it will recall about 1.73 million trucks for defects, including one wiring harness defect the company says could inadvertently set off an airbag.
The largest recall covers about 1.35 million model year 2012, 2013 and 2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups and select chassis cabs.
It’s not been a good year from Ram with regards to recalls. Two months ago, the company agreed to a record $105 million penalty following a government investigation of the company’s handling of 23 recalls of more than 11 million cars and trucks.
As part of Ram’s agreement, the company agreed to buy back affected pickups if repairs haven’t been completed.
