Ford Work Solutions on hold

Ford hits snag with Work Solutions option

by Bruce W. Smith

Ford pickup owners who purchased the optional Work Solutions package for their 2011 F-Series are probably wondering when the dealer will call them to have it installed.

Don’t expect that call anytime soon.

Some Super Duty owners have been waiting since February to receive their Work Solutions hardware and related software packages such as Tool Link and Crew Chief.

According to a big Ford dealer in the South, “There’s a very serious issue regarding the Work Solutions System for the Super Crew; there is a glitch that can’t be repaired at the manufacturing level and Ford will not install them until this error is fixed. No one has a working Work Solutions system in the country.”

Our calls and e-mails to Ford regarding the long delay of the highly touted Work Solutions/Tool Link package, which provides multiple systems for the contractor to turn their Super Duty into a rolling office, have gone unanswered.

But unnamed sources inside Ford tell us this:

  • The problem is supplier sourced.
  • Ford and supplier are working on a fix but are not ready to release the program.
  • Ford is very cautious about saying much about the program or releasing it before they are certain it works perfectly.

So far there’s been no word from Ford if those buyer’s who purchased the option package will be getting a refund or offered some other compensation.
