New bass engine rounds out Mercury 3-liter family

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Serious anglers asked for it and Mercury Marine responded with the 200 hp OptiMax Pro XS, a power-packed bass engine with looks and torque typically reserved for Saturday mornings on ESPN.

This latest addition to Mercury’s quick, powerful and efficient fuel-injected engine lineup is aimed at 18-20 foot boats with max ratings of 200 hp, and provides superior performance over standard 200 hp outboards.

The 200 Pro XS, like all OptiMax outboards, uses from 10-30 percent less fuel than a traditional two-stroke.

Fuel economy is comparable to a four-stroke motor, with the power-to-weight ratio advantages of a lighter two-stroke – perfect for smaller, lighter boats

So, with gas prices bound to rise and the economy still reeling, marine dealers are seeing resurging interest in fishing boats from 17 to 19 feet. That’s because these boats are more affordable to buy; easier and less expensive to maintain and operate; and are perfect for the serious weekend angler or a family looking for a little time together closer to home.

The OptiMax 200 Pro XS is currently available from Mercury dealers throughout North America.
