Oh, sweet sorrow…

After police in Lexington, Ky. posted a self-effacing Tweet showing them ‘lamenting’ the loss of a Krispy Kreme delivery truck to a fire this week, the popular donut chain joined in the fun by delivering ‘grieving officers’ dozens of donuts. The sweet gesture prompted a response on Twitter.

“The Lexington Police Department has been blown away by the positive messages and support received in the wake of the New Year’s Eve Doughnut Truck Fire,” LPD Tweeted. “The impact of that tragedy was felt not just across the country, but around the globe. We are grateful to so many who helped ease the pain of a doughnut-sized hole in our hearts.”

No donuts were actually lost in the truck fire which had already delivered its precious cargo prior to the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
