A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers and several passenger vehicles today on Interstate 75 near Gainesville, Fla. killed seven and injured eight.
A truck driver, whose name was not released, is among the dead along with children who been traveling in a mini-van, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision, which is being investigated as a homicide by the Florida Highway Patrol, created major traffic delays. While all northbound lanes near the accident reopened tonight, southbound lanes between 39th Avenue and U.S. 441 were expected to remain closed until tomorrow morning.
The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 393, according to gainesville.com.
