isuzu-nprIsuzu is recalling roughly 25,000 cab-over trucks, including some manufactured for Chevrolet, over concerns that the accelerator may become stuck open.

Certain model year 2014-2016 Isuzu NPR and NPR HD and Chevrolet Low Cab Forward 3500 HD, 4500HD and 4500XD have a throttle pedal that may become stuck under the steel stopper bolt.

“A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports in the official recall notice.

The effected vehicles are equipped with a brake override system. In case the accelerator becomes stuck open, NHTSA reports that the driver should push on the brake pedal which will bring the truck to a stop and allow the driver to turn off the engine.

Isuzu will notify owners and dealers will remove and replace the stopper bolt with a flanged plate to prevent lateral movement of the throttle free of charge.

Owners may contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638. NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline can be reached at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
