Daimler Trucks and NorthStar ink $500 million battery deal

Northstar batteryDaimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has chosen the Swedish-American energy storage manufacturer NorthStar Battery Company as the supplier of Ultra High Performance Pure Lead absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries for the next generation Cascadia Truck.

NorthStar is also available as an extended life option on the majority of DTNA platforms, creating a strategic partnership valued at up to $500 million. DTNA is the first to market by offering its customers a standard pure lead power solution for ParkSmart models.

“We are pleased that effective today NorthStar is available as a replacement battery through the DTNA dealer network across North America,” says John Semeniuk, NorthStar’s president of transportation products. “NorthStar is also the primary supplier of batteries on the ParkSmart truck platform, and can be ordered as a factory option upgrade on most other models, providing DTNA customers the most powerful performance today.”

NorthStar, a world leader in battery technology, reports that it’s developed the highest output batteries for the heavy duty truck market. The Freightliner Cascadia will be using NorthStar’s NSB AGM 31 battery which is rated at 1150 cold cranking amps, 220 min. of reserve capacity and comes with a 48-month free replacement warranty.

NorthStar reports that the current market is driving the industry to manufacture
 batteries that provide higher capacity, longer life and greater reliability while reducing maintenance costs. NorthStar’s batteries undergo rigorous testing to ensure a consistent product that is guaranteed to perform.

NorthStar has received worldwide approval to supply batteries to Daimler Original Equipment platforms. Focusing primarily with DTNA, NorthStar underwent Daimler’s very comprehensive world-class audit and testing process in competition with other well-known brands to gain approval.
