Truck traffic came to a halt at the ports of New York and New Jersey today after laborers staged a walk-off.

The Port Authority addressed the incident on its website. Workers with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) left their jobs this morning.

“There is an apparent labor walk off at all PONYNJ terminals.  No truck operations at this time,” a Port Authority statement declares. “All efforts to resume activity will be undertaken.”

Truck drivers are being advised to avoid the ports because of heavy traffic.

“As the agency that oversees the largest port complex on the East Coast, we strongly urge the ILA members to return to work immediately and resolve their differences after they return,” a Port Authority press release states.

“In the meantime, Port Authority Police are actively working to ensure public safety for all of the stakeholders at the port.”
