Certain Freightliner Cascadia CNG trucks, model years 2012 to 2014, have been recalled over concerns of a possible CNG tank discharge.Certain Freightliner Cascadia trucks fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) are being recalled by Daimler Trucks North America.
Certain Cascadia CNG trucks produced between Mar. 27, 2012 to Nov. 4, 2014 and equipped with a RH side mounted CNG tank were built with the exhaust tailpipe terminating near the CNG tank pressure relief device (PRD).
In certain circumstances the tailpipe exhaust may activate the PRD and vent the CNG tank which poses an increased risk of vehicle fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The affected vehicles will have the tailpipe extended beyond the end of the CNG tank pressure relief device. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Trucks North America authorized service facilities. Copies of the reimbursement plan will be submitted as a supplemental report when available.
Customer and dealer notification will be made by first class mail on Feb. 1, 2016 using Daimler Trucks North America records to determine the customers affected.
