Two truck drivers were caught this week abandoning animal hauls—one dropped off a trailer full of dead and dying chickens in Arkansas, while another ditched a box truck full of dogs in Florida, according to law enforcement officials.

Summit Poultry in Pine Bluff, Ark. and one of its truck drivers came under fire after a trailer full of thousands of dead and dying chickens was discovered abandoned in a neighborhood.

The driver, whose name has not been released, parked the trailer in a secluded part of the neighborhood so that it would be harder to see, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness who saw the driver leave the trailer on Tuesday night tipped off the sheriff’s office. Roughly 3,000 chickens, most of them dead, were found packed inside cages.

Law enforcement reported today that the chickens were taken from Summit Poultry to Oklahoma to be euthanized before being brought back to Pine Bluff.

“We’re still trying to find out why the chickens were left in the neighborhood,” Major Lafayette Woods told Fox News.

Woods called it one of the worst cases of animal cruelty that he’s seen and is now pursuing possible federal charges through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The sheriff’s office may charge those responsible with a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty which could result in jail time and a $1,000 fine.

In Tallahassee, Florida today the Leon County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a U-Haul truck filled with dogs that had been left at a shopping center parking lot.

Deputies tracked down and arrested the driver of the truck, 33-year-old Duane Green who had an arrest warrant in Georgia.

Green was charged with resisting arrest without violence, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The dogs were turned over to the humane society, according to wctv.tv.
