Getting one tire stolen is bad enough—but 68?!
Florida Power and Light (FPL) is offering up to $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for stealing 68 tires and 16 batteries from their utility trucks.
Since January, thieves have targeted FPL trucks in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Port St. Lucie and Jupiter. FPL released video of some of the thieves in action (see below).
“We believe the thieves are part of a highly organized crime ring targeting specific tires and batteries on FPL trucks,” FPL said in a statement. “When thieves steal from FPL, they are effectively stealing from all of our customers by raising the costs of doing business – which means everyone eventually pays.”
Besides stealing tires and batteries, passenger truck doors were stolen in Port St. Lucie in mid-January, according to palmbeachpost.com. The thieves have left the trucks propped up on wood blocks.
Thieves have cut through fences to get to the trucks parked overnight in service centers. Others were parked at a construction site.
