Bridgestone Offers Tire Tips

Tips For National Tire Safety Week

As families hit the road on vacation this spring and summer, it’s critical they check the condition of their tires before they set off. To promote the importance of tire safety, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is sharing a few tips for safe travel in conjunction with National Tire Safety Week, June 2-8.

Bridgestone encourages drivers to visit TireSafety.com, a website with how-to articles, tips and facts, including:

  • Inflate: The most important aspect of tire maintenance is proper tire inflation. Tires can lose one psi (pounds per square inch) per month under normal conditions. While three out of four drivers wash their cars monthly, only one out of seven correctly checks tire pressure.
  • Rotate: Regular tire rotations also will help prevent irregular and premature wear. Forty percent of drivers have not rotated their tires within the recommended interval of at least 5,000 miles.
  • Evaluate: Routinely look for signs of tread wear or damage. The “penny test” is a simple way to check tread wear. Place a penny in the tread. If Lincoln’s head is visible, the treads are too worn and need replacing.

Drivers interested in having their tires inspected for free by a professional can visit Bridgestone Tire stores, including Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works.
