The following recalls for Toyota, Navistar and the Shyft Group were issued recently by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Toyota recalling 2022 Tundra over concerns of possible axle separation

NHTSA reports that 46,176 non-hybrid and hybrid 2022 Tundras are being recalled to address a flange nut issue on the axle shaft sub-assemblies which “can loosen over time and potentially cause one or both axle shaft sub-assemblies to separate from the axle housing.”

Axle separation can affect vehicle instability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly, tighten the axle flange nuts and replace any damaged axle-related components if necessary, free of charge. Notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15. Owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and refer to recall number 22TA05.

Navistar recalling 2022-2023 International, LoneStar and WorkStar

Navistar is recalling certain 2022-2023 International HX, HV, LoneStar, LT, MV, RH, IC TC Commercial Bus, and 2022 International WorkStar vehicles. The steering gears may have been assembled incorrectly, which can cause the gear to fracture. A fractured steering gear can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA says potentially 33,655 units are affected by the recall.

Dealers will inspect the steering gear serial numbers, and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 18, 2022. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 22513.

Shyft Group recalling 2021-2022 Utilimaster Walk-In Vans

The headrest portion of the passenger-side jump seat in certain vans may have been installed in an incorrect position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 202, "Head Restraints." An incorrectly positioned headrest can increase the risk of injury during a crash. NHTSA says potentially 5,551 units are affected by the recall.

Shyft Group will install spacers, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 22, 2022. Owners may contact Shyft Group's customer service at 1-800-237-7806. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 22-02.
