A recycling truck equipped to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) caught fire and set off several explosions Friday in Florida.

Witnesses in the Tampa neighborhood of Carrollwood said they could feel explosions going off on the truck as fire fighters worked for about an hour to bring the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.

All four CNG tanks on the truck exploded along with the truck’s tires, according to abcactionnews.com. The truck was a total loss.

Before fire crews arrived, the driver attempted in vain to put out the fire with an extinguisher kept on the truck. Fire fighters used water and flame-retardant foam to fight the blaze.

The truck had been picking up recyclable material in the neighborhood when the fire started Friday around 3:45 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
