Ever broke a sidewalk? Probably not.
But we do know of at least one unlucky trash truck driver in New York who found out the hard way that some sidewalks just can’t handle the weight of a refuse truck.
The New York City Fire Department Tweeted a video on Saturday that shows a rear loader getting pulled out of harm’s way after its right rear tire broke through a sidewalk vault in Manhattan on Greene Street.
No injuries were reported. Sidewalk vaults typically cover mechanical rooms and basements. Stories of leaking vaults and structural failures have been reported.
