Each day, nearly two dozen graffiti removal trucks operated by Chicago’s Department of Streets and Sanitation respond to requests to remove unsightly graffiti.Trucks are used in a lot of surprising vocations including graffiti removal in Chicago.
Graffiti in Chicago has gotten so bad that the city recently added eight more trucks to its graffiti removal fleet at a price of around $552,000.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation, which is in charge of the city’s Graffiti Removal Service, operates a total of 22 trucks equipped with large tanks and high-pressure sprayers which use either baking soda and water or citric acid and water to remove graffiti in five days or less after it’s been reported. Graffiti removal in Chicago is such a demanding and challenging business that the city now has 26 to 28 crews out each day removing unsightly verbiage and images, according to the chicagotribune.com.
For the first quarter this year, the city completed 33,931 graffiti removal requests, which is down from the 39,415 requests fulfilled last year for the same period. Removal requests are made by dialing 311 or through the city’s Graffiti Removal Service web page.
