If you’re like me, you may kick yourself for having sold that old truck or SUV years ago.

Yep. Read it and weep, or rejoice. Classic trucks and SUVs continue to gain traction with Hagerty, prominent valuation and insurance providers for classic vehicles and boats.

In the most recent Hagerty Vehicle Rating report, the 1945-1968 Dodge Power Wagon and 1966-1977 Ford Bronco tied for the number one spot. Chevy C/K pickups, model years 1973-1987, took second place. Fourteen of the top 25 spots were claimed by pickups and SUVs. Jeeps took an additional three places on the list. (List posted below along with scores.)

On its website, Hagerty reports that its vehicle rating report tracks a vehicle’s performance relative to the entire classic car/truck market. Based on a scale of 0-100, a vehicle with a 50-point rating is keeping pace with the overall market. Those above 50 are appreciating faster than average, while those below 50 are lagging.

As of late, Power Wagons have been quickly climbing up the list.

“The number of Power Wagons we’re insuring and the average value they’re being insured for are both growing at incredible levels,” says Hagerty Valuation Information Analyst Jesse Pilarski. “In fact, based on insurance data, Power Wagons are among the four hottest vehicles right now.”

Keep in mind that affordability is playing a big part in demand. Eleven of the top 25 vehicles carry a median No. 3 (“good”) value less than $10,000, and only one is valued more than $25,000—the 19th-ranked 1983–90 Land Rover Defender, which has a Hagerty Price Guide value of $25,500.

“It’s fair to say that entry level cars are selling well,” Pilarski says. “They have the highest auction sell-through rate at 73%.”

Anyway, if you look up any values, you may be surprised and even a little upset. For instance, my 1989 Ramcharger 150 LE which I had to sell 14 years ago for a minivan is now valued at $9,400 in good condition. Yes it stinks, but getting the minivan definitely made the wife very happy at the time, and anyone who’d rather not cuddle up with a 318, knows that the wife’s rating report is also of value.
