Ford is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-Series trucks over concerns that a door handle cover may cause the door to unlatch in an accident.

The door handle accessory was available on certain 2015-2017 F-150 and 2017 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks. In the event of a side impact collision, these door handle covers may malfunction and cause the door to unlatch.

Ford reported that 14,410 trucks are affected. These include trucks originally produced with black or body colored exterior door handles equipped with a chrome exterior door handle cover.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will remove the accessory covers and refund the purchase price. The recall began July 21. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for the recall is 17C09.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. Refer to NHTSA campaign number 17V331000.
