Three trucks and a 38-year-old van got plenty of attention at Barrett-Jackson’s record-breaking auction this past week in Scottsdale, Az.
A record 1,719 vehicles were consigned to the Jan. 14 – 22 auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Sales totaled more than $102 million with $2.2 million going to charity.
“This year’s Scottsdale auction was a tremendous success,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Despite the rain and colder temperatures, we had a phenomenal turnout, set 40 world auction sales records and sold more than 1,800 pieces of authentic automobilia.
“This year’s entertainment factor was through the roof. From Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler and Grammy award-winning Justin Bieber, through undefeated pro boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and the most decorated Olympian in history, Michael Phelps, to two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, there was no shortage of entertainment and full-throttle excitement.”
Among the head-turning vehicles was a 1968 GMC C-10 Pickup that had been customized by RideTech live before auction goers in the new DIY Pavilion.
The 48-hour build saw a base truck transformed with upgraded Forgeline wheels, BFG tires, Baer brakes, Fitech EFI, No Limit Engineering fuel tank, Currie crate rear end, Vintage Air air conditioning, Classic Instruments gauges, Kicker stereo, C&R radiator, American Autowire wiring – and a new RideTech StreetGrip suspension. The completed Pro-Touring-style truck sold for $82,500.
Ford announced last week that it was auctioning the last 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor to come off the assembly line. The truck didn’t disappoint as it brought in $157,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and got an additional $50,000 donation.
A rare barn find in Canada, a 1979 Chevy Nomad van with 217 original miles, brought plenty of smiles. The van was bought originally for a family in Canada, but instead it enjoyed a sheltered life and was rarely used. It’s a time capsule with a tan interior that screams the 1970s. The van sold for $26,400.
Another head-turning truck included a 2016 GMC Sierra Custom pickup to benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation/Building for America’s Bravest which sold for $100,000.
