Now showing…Samsung’s Safety Truck shows drivers trailing behind what the road looks like ahead.Drivers have long been told that it’s illegal to watch TV while driving, but Samsung is hoping that the idea will actually catch on…sort of.
This week, the electronics giant unveiled its first Samsung Safety Truck, a Volvo cab-over tractor trailer which features four, large flat-panel TVs on the back of the truck.
Don’t count on watching Sports Center or old episodes of B.J. and the Bear; these TVs display to drivers in the rear what the road looks like ahead.
Strange as it sounds, these extremely bright, 46-inch LED screens mounted to the back of the truck’s doors provide live video of the road in front of the truck.
While the truck is currently confined to Argentina, where it will undergo testing for a year, the idea may catch on. The Samsung Safety Truck has won various awards and earned recognition as one of the best 25 inventions of 2015 by Time magazine.
While it doesn’t guarantee that trucks will be passed any faster, the idea here is to give drivers a better idea of what clearly lies ahead before they venture over the yellow line.
Each picture is made available to nearby drivers through four Samsung OH46D video screens mounted on both trucks doors. Designed to be dustproof and waterproof, the OHD Series video walls are IP56 certified and designed to keep working in challenging environmental conditions and deliver a clear picture regardless of the road or weather.
