An Illinois tow truck driver was arrested Tuesday and charged with murdering a truck driver last week on Interstate 88 just west of Chicago.

Illinois State Police say Anthony Tillmon, 34, shot and killed DML Logistics truck driver Eduardo Munoz, 43, of Sunrise Fla. on Friday while both men were driving east bound on I-88 near the Interstate 294 interchange.

Though Munoz had been shot three times he was still able to safely pull over his Volvo truck where he waited on paramedics. The father of three who had been engaged to be married died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing Tillmon and Munoz making gestures and yelling at each other before Tillmon reached over in his tow truck and began firing at Munoz through his passenger window around 4:50 p.m. Friday.

Tillmon eluded law enforcement for four days before turning himself in yesterday. Though a gun was not recovered, a 9 mm bullet casing was found in Tillmon’s truck, according to the Chicago Tribune.

GPS and an electronic toll device place Tillmon’s truck at the murder scene. Witnesses also described a green vest that Tillmon had allegedly been wearing at the time. A green vest was found in Tillmon’s truck.

Tillmon is being held on a $3 millon bond at the DuPage County jail.

Munoz’ murder recalls last year’s deadly interstate shooting involving two truck drivers in Florida (story is linked above).

Last May, New Jersey resident George Guerrero had been driving east bound on I-10 in Jacksonville when construction work in the right lane caused him to merge into the left lane in front of an orange tractor-trailer, which the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office listed as a 2000-2005 Freightliner Century flattop sleeper cab with fairings.

The driver of that Freightliner, described by witnesses as a black male with a beard, pulled up alongside Guerrero—after Guerrero had switched back to the right lane—side-swiped his truck and then shot him three times, including once in the head.

Guerrero’s truck drifted into the woods alongside the interstate. Law enforcement officials said his dog, who had been riding with him at the time, was found unharmed near his body. No arrests have been made.

Hard Working Trucks contacted the Illinois State Police and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to determine if there’s any connection between the two cases. Both shooting suspects were described by witnesses as being bearded black males, both victims were Hispanic and both victims had been shot three times while driving on an interstate.
