Big Red Winner Takes Keys

Gary Koenig, winner of 2013 Big Red Sweepstakes

It’s been a little more than a year since the first upgrades were started on Big Red.

It came from Houston, used but well taken care of by the previous owner.

Now, it’s headed back to Houston under the care of an equally conscientious owner.

Gary Koenig, owner of Gary’s Tire & Automotive Service and Gary’s Rhino Linings, won our coveted sweepstakes truck. And he has been waiting nearly a month to see what he won.

Today the fully customized 2008 GMC Sierra 3500 dually work truck, Big Red, is sitting in outside his tire store office for all to see.

“The only thing I’d ever won was a cake during a cake walk when I was in grade school,” quipped the Texas businessman. “I really don’t know what to say. It’s some truck when you see it in person.”

The Texas businessman flew to Tuscaloosa where Dan Tidwell, the VP of the Construction Media Group of Randall Reilly, presented Koenig with the keys and a plaque commemorating the social occasion held at Barkley GMC.

“We wanted the truck to have pulling power, load-carrying capability, passenger comfort, versatility and dependability all wrapped up in a stylish package,” said ProPickup editor Bruce Smith who oversaw the build.

“From what Gary has told me today, I think we accomplished that goal.”

Big Red…I hate to see you head down the road. But you’re in great hands. — Bruce Smith / Editor
