READERS REACT: Benz pickup too much luxury, not enough truck

Late last week, Hard Working Trucks reported Mercedes-Benz has positioned itself to seize the top-end of the luxury pickup segment.

Mercedes says it doesn’t plan to bring the pickup the States just yet, but the top three best-selling vehicles in the United States in 2014 were all half-ton pickups. So, it may only be a matter of time.

A couple of our commenters, however, won’t exactly be the first ones to rush to their local dealership should a U.S. release take place.

“A re-badged Mitsubishi Grocery Getter with snob appeal,” wrote Sawman. “Ought to sell well in the states for the ‘more money than sense’ crowd; the feminized male that wants to act manly but doesn’t know which end of a screwdriver to hold, and never changed a tire in his life. Move over Escalade & Denali, GM better start blinging out the Canyon for Cadi before the Benz HT (Half Truck) series washes ashore.”

Commenter Mastermech wasn’t necessarily thrilled by the idea of a Benz truck, but did have a wish list for Mercedes.

“From my perspective, I would rather Mercedes have 3/4T thru class 7 trucks [COE] produced for the U.S. market.”

What do you think? Is a Benz truck a little too much luxury for even a luxury pickup?
