Inventev and New Eagle have teamed up to offer an electric conversion kit for Ford Transit.Two companies have paired up to offer an electric conversion kit for Ford Transit vans.
Shortly after announcing their partnership earlier this month, Michigan-based New Eagle and Inventev displayed a fully electric Ford Transit at the Detroit Auto Show.
New Eagle will provide the core propulsion systems and controls, while Inventev will handle up-fitting and distribution.
While still in early stages of development, the two companies see potential job creation and retention in Michigan, numbering over one hundred, as a direct result of the project.
“The environment to support commercial truck electrification has been changing rapidly at the federal, state and municipal levels,” said Dave Stenson, founder & CEO of Inventev. “We feel this near-term product offering will address specialty fleet customer needs and be complementary to Inventev’s core technology ‘The Energy SWAT Truck’ that will develop in parallel.”
Specifications for Transit electric conversion kit offered by Inventiv and New Eagle.Under a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, Inventev is developing a commercial truck fueled by stationary natural gas to generate cost-effective and flexible electric grid-quality power. In effect, the vehicle acts as a power supply. The system also supports both idle-free powering of hydraulics for uses such as aerial lifts on utility trucks and extended range hybrid-electric driving. A Ford F550 is being used as the base vehicle chassis for the project.
The fully electric Ford Transit was developed using New Eagle’s Powertrain Kit, which allows fleets and manufacturers to quickly and affordably convert their vehicle into a zero emissions, plug-in electric vehicle. The kits are customizable, meaning customers can select the components that best fit their system. Available for any light-duty, medium-duty, commercial delivery, or shuttle vehicle, the kit has previously been configured for the Dodge Promaster, Ford F-150, Fiat Ducato, and, of course, the Ford Transit.
