Kurdish fighters recently seized a Toyota Hilux from ISIS terrorists who had added an all-terrain track system.The word’s been out for a while that Toyota trucks have been ending up in the hands of Middle East terrorists.
Now, the first picture of a tread-equipped Toyota Hilux has emerged after Kurdish fighters captured it recently from ISIS fighters.
The 4X4 Hilux, which is the European version of the Tacoma, was posted on the Kurdish Peshmerga Forces Facebook page. It’s unclear how many trucks have been fitted with the tank-like treads.
Both the Hilux and Toyota Land Cruiser have been shown in several ISIS videos with terrorists and heavy weapons.
The U.S. Treasury conducted an investigation late last year to determine why Toyota trucks have been favored by terrorists.
In response to the investigation, Toyota said it has no control over third party businesses which may sell their popular trucks to enemies of the U.S. and its allies.
The popularity of Toyota trucks in Europe and the Middle East makes finding replacement parts easy. However, it’s not clear who produced the aftermarket treads for the Hilux captured by the Kurds.
Tread track systems sold in the U.S. are commonly used for use in the snow.
