Federal regulators say they are looking into whether Ford Motor Co. should expand a 2013 safety recall of specialty diesel trucks over a malfunctioning sensor.
The previous recall involves nearly 3,000 F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks equipped with ambulance packages and 6.7-liter diesel engines. The recall states the malfunctioning sensor could cause the truck to stall.
However, since the initial recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says additional complaints have come from truck owners without the ambulance upfit as well as customers who already went through the campaign.
The government is investigate whether the first recall repair worked, and whether Ford should expand the campaign to cover all 200,000-plus diesel-equipped trucks sold from 2011 and 2012 model years.
