2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4Ă—4 Crew Cab XLPolice are reporting that Ford Super Duty trucks are continuing to be targeted by thieves in Indiana.
A surveillance camera at a construction business in Henry County about 15 miles west of Indianapolis recently recorded four thieves stealing three F-250 pickups.
The trucks were locked up in a fenced area. A dead battery prevented the theft of a fourth truck at Roberts Pipeline Construction Company.
Two of the trucks have since been recovered following the Jan. 13 heist.
“One of them was stripped. The bed was empty. Headache rack was gone. They dropped it off and parked it a mile and a half from the shop here,” business owner Jason Roberts told theindychannel.com.
Roberts, who maintains a fleet of 30 F-250 trucks, said his business has never had a problem with theft over the past 30 years. He’ll now be taking steps to improve security.
Though no arrests have been made, police have gathered DNA evidence from the recovered trucks which may prove helpful in their investigation.
Police in Indianapolis say that in the past several months over a dozen Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks have been reported stolen. The thefts follow a bust that police made during the summer at a chop shop in Indianapolis which may have served as a clearinghouse for dozens of stolen trucks.
Ford Super Duty trucks have also been targeted by thieves in Denver where police warned in September that thefts of F-250 and F-350 pickups were on the rise.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, more Ford trucks were stolen last year than any other pickup brand.
