A dump truck traveling in Florida with an elevated bed slammed into an I-10 overpass causing structural damage and a highway shutdown.

No injuries were reported after the raised bed of a Chavers Construction dump truck traveling east-bound on I-10 struck the Wilkerson Bluff Road overpass early Friday morning about five miles east of Crestview (see map below).

The impact was so severe that the bed separated from the truck and became embedded in the overpass and the highway below. A bridge beam damaged by the collision will have to be replaced, according to weartv.com.

East bound traffic on I-10 was shut down for several hours following the 2 a.m. accident. Traffic was diverted through a nearby exit.

Traffic on the Wilkerson Bluff Road overpass has been reduced to one lane because of structural damage.
