Daimler announced Tuesday that it will be recalling 136,000 vans that are equipped with potentially defective Takata air bag inflators.Daimler plans to recall 136,000 vans in the U.S. that it says are equipped with Takata air bag inflators that may be defective.
The recall order from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also effects 705,000 Mercedes-Benz cars.
Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, did not specify the models and years for its vehicles effected by this latest airbag recall. Defective airbag canisters manufactured by Japan-based Takata can explode on impact and injure or even kill vehicle occupants.
Ten deaths have been blamed on the defective canisters thus far.
USA Today reports that Daimler is one of about 10 auto manufacturers effected by the Takata recall. Mercedes-Benz reports that the recall will reduce its net profit for fiscal 2015 from $9.7 billion to $8.1 billion.
