Chrysler recalls 16,000 vehicles for possible shock problem; 2014 Ram 1500 on list

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

Chrysler Group is recalling an estimated 16,000 vehicles to inspect and, if necessary, replace the shocks and/or struts. The vehicles, including certain 2014 Ram 1500 pickups, may have been assembled using a shipment of shocks and struts that do not meet the company’s quality standards.

The components may break free from their mounts, which could potentially lead to reduced shock damping and possible loss of vehicle control.

The official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice is summarized below, or it can be found here.

SUMMARY:

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Ram 1500 and 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles. Due to an insufficient weld, the rear shocks may detach from the vehicle at one end and possibly damage other chassis components, the tire or result in reduced braking.

CONSEQUENCE:

Damage to the tire or reduced braking increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

REMEDY:

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear shocks and replace any affected ones, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler’s number for this recall is P37.
