Chevrolet said Wednesday its new low cab forward trucks are now headed to Chevrolet dealers across the country, officially marking the Detroit giant’s return to the medium duty market.

The new cabover trucks – based on Isuzu’s N-Series – are offered in regular cab and crew cab body styles, with either a 6 liter V-8 gas engine, a 3 liter turbo-diesel or a 5.2 liter turbo-diesel engine, each matched to six-speed automatic transmission.

The seven new models – Chevrolet 3500, 3500HD, 4500, 4500HD, 4500XD, 5500HD and 5500XD – will be distributed through select Chevrolet dealers focused on the commercial business. Depending on the model, wheelbases ranging from 109 to 212 inches will be available with GVWRs ranging from 12,000 lbs. to 19,500 lbs. Class 3 through 5 models are available with maximum GVWR ranges of up to 19,500 pounds.

GM expects compatibility for a variety of body types, including dry freight or refrigerated boxes, stake/flat beds and service bodies.

“Drivers will love this truck because it’s comfortable, versatile and easy to drive, but the thing that will set us apart for owners-operators and fleet managers is ease of service through a nationwide network of Chevrolet commercial dealers,” says John Schwegman, director of commercial product, General Motors Fleet.

Pricing begins at an MSRP of $40,900 for models spec’d with gasoline engines. Pricing for trucks equipped with diesels starts at $48,375. Prices include a $1,125 destination charge but exclude tax, title, license and dealer fees.
